Summary :
⁣Laparoscopy is regarded as the Gold Standard in diagnosis of Endometriosis. However, for deep infiltrating endometriosis (DIE), posterior compartment disease cannot be quantified until densely adherent bowel is mobilized with opening of perirectal space. This is associated with a high risk of complications needing careful planning and patient counselling. Using transvaginal ultrasound can help in the diagnosis and can be used as a screening tool followed by MRI to confirm the extent of the disease.Statistically significant correlation between ultrasound, MRI and surgical ENZIAN classification (P 0.01). Ultrasound identified all cases with adenomyosis, rectovaginal DIE and was accurate in 90% of the cases in identifying rectal adhesion and ovarian mobility.
